Abused Dog Rescued From The Streets Overcomes Challenges, Thanks To Its New Owners

Abused Dog Rescued From The Streets Overcomes Challenges, Thanks To Its New Owners

Kathy Morgan December 30, 2021

When Ethan was found wandering alone in a parking lot in Kentucky, the poor dog was severely emaciated and had various scars all over his body. He was 50 pounds underweight and very scared of the people around him.

Rescuers from the Kentucky Humane Society came and took him to their facility. For the next couple of months, Ethan was given a lot of care and attention. He flourished and became healthy. He even overcame his fears and became more sociable.

Soon, he was adopted by Jeff Callaway, the facilities director of the shelter. Ethan loved his new home, and he became happier. But sadly, abuses from the past came back and created a lot of challenges to his health.

Trauma

Ethan’s family started noticing that the dog was having frequent seizures. When it became a regular occurrence, they sought help from several vets, but no one could find what was wrong with him. But when he finally got an MRI and a neurology assessment, that’s when they discovered that he has lesions on his frontal lobe and this resulted in brain damage.

The vets said that this was probably due to several blunt force trauma that he received previously.

They gave him medication for the seizures, but that only reduced the symptoms. They tried several treatments to cure the root cause, but they didn’t seem to work. Months went by, and he started showing improvements. Through it all, The dog’s family was by his side.

Family

Jeff, along with his family, constantly monitored Ethan. They made sure that he actually received his medication and that he never missed his vet visits. They exercised with him regularly and gave him a healthy diet. Soon, his seizures were rarely happening.

Ethan got support from everywhere. Jeff would bring him to the shelter, and all the staff members loved him. Their presence and affection had made it easier for the dog to recover.

About The Author

Kathy Morgan

I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma (of course a lady never shares their age) many years ago. Growing up I could remember always enjoying many pets in our household. From rabbits, hamsters Guinea pigs and dogs I loved them all even to this day. After graduating from High School: I decided to search for my first job. Yep, you guessed it my first job landed me in a pet shop. I learned so much from that experience that twenty years later I am still affiliated with our four-legged friend. I no longer work in a pet shop; but I have devoted my life to writing articles about “man’s best friend” dogs. I hope you enjoy the articles, stories and videos of our furry friends on this website. See you on the inside.
