Some dogs have a knack for trapping themselves in unlikely spaces. A 13-year-old Golden Retriever from New York named Lilah is very well one of them.
The senior dog went missing in June, but she was soon discovered inside a culvert pipe. Thankfully, New York State Troopers came to rescue her.
Where’s Lilah?
Lilah was discovered when Rudy Fuehrer, her owner, was walking his two other dogs who happened to be Lilah’s puppies. Then, he heard Lilah’s cries from underground.
Fuehrer followed the yelps, and they led him to a drain pipe where the dog was trapped. The fur dad tried to lure Lilah out with cheese and peanut butter, but she would not budge.
After his failed attempts to get the dog out, Fuehrer decided to call 911. State Troopers Jimmy Rasaphone and Ana Reynas arrived at the scene.
The two troopers realized that the only way to save the senior dog was to have someone crawl inside the pipe. Rasaphone decided to do it.
According to Fuehrer, Rasaphone crouched down and crawled inside the narrow tube, carrying a choker with him. Once he was close to Lilah, the State Trooper got the choker around the dog’s head. After that, Rasaphone led her out and back into Fuehrer’s arms.
Lilah’s safe
Lilah recovered nicely at home and is now back to her regular walks around town. This time, Fuehrer makes sure that the Golden Retriever is on leash.
In a Facebook post regarding the rescue, the New York State Police uploaded a photo showing Rasaphone with Lilah and Fuehrer. The said post thanked Rasaphone and Reynas for going beyond their duties and showing compassion to help Lilah get back to her family.
Currently, the said Facebook post has more than 14K reactions, over 1K shares, and 1.3K comments. The netizens also praised the State Troopers for a job well done.
