Humans and their four-legged buddies have shared a special bond since time immemorial. This was proven when Simon Davis, an archaeologist, and his team dug up a human skeleton that’s over 120 centuries old back in 1976. Wrapped around what used to be its arms was the skeleton of a dog, indicating how intimate their relationship once was.
That kind of bond still exists between dogs and humans living in the world today. We welcome these pooches into our homes and treat them like they’re our own blood. In return, dogs shower us with all the love and affection they believe we deserve.
It isn’t easy to imagine what life would be like without our fluffy companions. Aside from giving us something to smile about each day, they also know how to comfort us whenever we feel lonely, stressed, and anxious. With all the natural high we get from these pups, it’s no wonder some hospitals have decided to hire them.
The cheerful hospital staff
Among the dogs that have been hired as a hospital staff is a Golden Retriever named Shiloh. He works as a “Justice Volunteer” at Wexner Medical Center. His task? To greet patients and medical professionals working at the facility.
Getting daily visits from Shiloh is, often, the very thing they need to take their minds off work. Reporting for hospital duty for days on end can be stressful; that’s why seeing the Justice Volunteer for a minute or two each day means the world to them. It’s like their energies get recharged whenever they get warm hugs from their four-legged colleague.
Always grateful
Among those who would always look forward to seeing Shiloh is Shari Dunaway, a Neurology Resident Physician at the center. She recently uploaded a photo of her new best friend on Twitter so everyone could meet him. Those who came across her post gushed over how adorable Shiloh is and lucky she is to be working at the same hospital with him.
