A lot of dogs have been hailed as heroes for going above and beyond to save people’s lives. This is probably why many would agree that we really don’t deserve dogs because they’re just too good for us.
Oftentimes, you may hear stories about dogs being a hero and one of the most recent ones had just happened a few days before Christmas.
On the 14th of December, Jeff and Kelly Dowling were quite upset. Their 9-month-old baby was sick and inconsolable. Since they couldn’t comfort her well, they tried to keep Henry, the family dog, away from the nursery.
The 8-year-old Boston Terrier happens to be the baby’s best friend, so he too was worried about the baby being ill. He wanted to guard her and be by her side. Though Jeff and Kelly understood how Henry felt, they still didn’t allow the pooch just so the baby would have some uninterrupted sleep.
But Henry didn’t seem to cooperate. He kept on barging and headbutting the nursery door, trying to enter the baby’s room. At first, Kelly was annoyed. But little did she know that Henry had a very good reason for doing so.
It turned out, the pooch had sensed something wrong with the baby, so he was trying to warn Kelly and Jeff. When both parents checked on the sleeping baby, they saw that she was turning blue and was unable to breathe. They finally understood what Henry had been trying to tell them the whole time.
The couple rushed their little girl to the Connecticut Children’s Hospital. Thankfully, doctors were able to help her clear her airways so she can breathe more easily. They were told to send back the baby home that night.
The Dowlings are so grateful to their pooch for saving their baby girl. And, as the parents have admitted, they wouldn’t know what would have happened if Henry hadn’t tried to warn them.
