Pit Bulls are stereotyped as mean dogs who are always looking for trouble. The breed has a bad reputation, and this prejudice affects their adoption rate. A lot of people stay away from Pit Bulls for fear that they’ll get hurt in the end. As an aftermath, these dogs end up being euthanized.
Of Pit Bulls and flowers
Sophie Gamand is a French photographer based in the United States. She’s aware of the stigma, and she knows that that can be changed. She released a photo series called “Flower Power, Pit Bulls of the Revolution” to show people that just like other breeds, Pit Bulls have a soft side too.
Gamand placed flower crowns on the Pit Bulls to make them look more friendly. According to her, there are almost one million Pit Bulls that are being euthanized each year, and that’s just in the United States. Pit Bulls from other parts of the world suffer the same prejudice, and Gamand wants to lend her voice to these dogs.
The power of photographs
As a photographer, Gamand knows that she has the power to change people’s minds. It’s no wonder that she was so committed to her project. Her heart went out to the Pit Bulls who had to suffer just because a lot of people were misinformed about their breed.
Aside from the pictures, Gamand also maximized her status as an influencer on social media. She shared the photos of the dogs online to help them find forever homes. Her followers were quick to respond to her call to action.
Gamand’s project is proof that there’s more to Pit Bulls than what meets the eye. All these dogs ask for is a chance to prove that they are kind, gentle, and capable of loving.
