This Adorable Corgi Demonstrates That Her Breed Just May Be A Distant Relative Of Rabbits

This Adorable Corgi Demonstrates That Her Breed Just May Be A Distant Relative Of Rabbits

Kathy Morgan April 1, 2023

Corgis have long held a unique place in our hearts. We believe it is mostly due to their bunny-like ears, in addition to their numerous other distinguishing qualities.

Mabel is the name of this Corgi in this story today, and this footage was taken when she was a puppy. At such an innocent and young age, she has surely already established herself as a charmer, which is unsurprising given her beauty.

Mabel, like her predecessors, is a naturally curious dog. Today’s subject of curiosity was a toy that resembled a bone and was green and white in hue. It piqued the pup’s interest.

Unbeknownst to her, dad was filming her movements, which was quite sweet to see. Dad tried to get Mabel’s attention, but the pup paid him no regard.

She was so intent on the toy that she reached for it with her mouth. She was able to, but it slid forward and skittered. That’s when Mabel hopped toward the toy like a rabbit.

As she pursued the elusive object, her adorable little hops were repeated. She was unaware that she had just established that corgis and bunnies are related.

You’ve got to be kidding if you believe those ears bore no resemblance to those of a bunny. How about that stubby tail, and how about those hops?

Combine them and you effectively have rabbits wearing different coats. If the toy had been a carrot, Mabel’s demonstration that corgis and bunnies are distant cousins would have been complete.

The fur dad, like us, found his pet’s hops amusing. Mabel even hopped in the way that only rabbits can with their strong hind legs.

Do not be concerned about the doubters, Mabel. We believe you and your rabbit companions are really linked. We don’t know what happened during evolution, but those resembling characteristics should explain the story.

I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma (of course a lady never shares their age) many years ago. Growing up I could remember always enjoying many pets in our household. From rabbits, hamsters Guinea pigs and dogs I loved them all even to this day. After graduating from High School: I decided to search for my first job. Yep, you guessed it my first job landed me in a pet shop. I learned so much from that experience that twenty years later I am still affiliated with our four-legged friend. I no longer work in a pet shop; but I have devoted my life to writing articles about “man’s best friend” dogs. I hope you enjoy the articles, stories and videos of our furry friends on this website. See you on the inside.
