Park rangers patrol the wilderness area near Kansas City, Missouri on a regular basis. They were taken aback one day when they came across a mud-caked dog near Longview Lake. A cinder block was tied to the dog’s neck and it was sitting next to him. It was abundantly clear that someone meant to kill the dog.
The park officers acted immediately to rescue the dog from his perilous predicament. They were fortunate to have reached him before anything worse occurred.
The unlucky dog trembled in the frigid water and dirt that coated the majority of his body. When the rangers began releasing him, the canine was extremely cooperative and appeared to understand why they were there. Soon afterward, police from Jackson County Animal Control arrived to take custody of the dog, which they have named Deputy.
The abandoned canine was examined by a veterinarian and, miraculously, was found to be in good health. He appeared to be approximately seven years old and was in good health. Additionally, he had a healthy covering of fur and was neutered. All indications were that he was cherished and cared for.
As a result, the reason why he was found in such a predicament remained a mystery.
Deputy lacked a microchip, making it impossible to determine his owners. The officers, however, posted his name and photo in the hope that someone would come and pick him up. Unfortunately, a few weeks passed and no one came to get him.
The shelter’s management was forced to place him up for adoption. Due to the dog’s friendly and affectionate nature, it didn’t take long to find him a new father.
John Pitburn, a Kansas City citizen, immediately fell in love with him. He visited the dog several times, and each encounter reaffirmed their bond. Recognizing that his intuition was correct, he filed for adoption.
Deputy now lives peacefully with his adoptive father and an elderly lab named Sandy.
