Most of us carry a soft spot for dogs, which is why it always makes us feel sad whenever we see stray dogs struggling to survive. Currently, there are millions of stray dogs barely surviving living on the streets. Many of them are sick and dying.
A stray dog who was later named Sapphire was seen wandering the streets in Greece for several days. Concerned people took photos of him and sent them to a local animal rescue group called DAR Animal Rescue. From the photos, it was clear that Sapphire had been neglected for a long time.
Sapphire wore a collar with a rope tied to it, which meant that he used to belong to somebody. The rescuers from DAR Animal Rescue believed that Sapphire was neglected by his owner and abandoned him when he got sick.
Sapphire was starving when he was found and was desperately trying to find food wherever he can. Thankfully, the animal rescuers came to get him just in time. One of the rescuers, Ermioni, gained Sapphire’s trust almost instantly.
Ermioni simply picked Sapphire up and drove him to the veterinarian for a health assessment. Aside from being emaciated, Sapphire also had three different diseases. It would take months for him to recover but the vet was optimistic that with proper care and treatment, he can fully recover.
Sapphire had a rough past but after getting rescued, his future looks a lot better. Ermioni and her fellow rescuers are giving Sapphire all the love and care he needs to recover. Sapphire is steadily gaining weight and he is also getting the treatment he needed for the diseases he has.
There are millions of other dogs that are in Sapphire’s condition. Thanks to rescuers like Ermioni and her team, many of these dogs are getting the second chance they deserve. All these animals need is love from humans. Here’s a video featuring Sapphire’s rescue and his road to recovery.
