Losing the ability to run must be a heartbreaking experience for dogs. After all, running free is something that is in their nature.
This was likely what Bentley felt. Bentley is a senior Corgi who had discovered that arthritis had rendered his hind legs immobilized. Because of this, the adorable dog became sad and dreaded each passing day. It seemed like he had lost his will to live.
Bentley’s human grandfather, however, did not allow the dog to become overcome with grief, given that the dog had so little time left. He wanted to help the dog live out his remaining days in perfect delight, regardless of how brief it would be.
Knowing that Bentley’s sadness stemmed from his inability to run, his grandfather decided to build him a customized wheelchair. He wanted to see the dog’s smile once again – the smile that he used to have when he was still a carefree puppy.
Bentley’s human grandfather began building the wheelchair’s frame and customizing it to the dog’s size using easily available parts that were found inside his home. He also attached a makeshift harness that was put together using a tarp, and then he painted the dog’s wheelchair charcoal gray.
The human grandfather added a jogging strap and some comfy cloth to the wheelchair in order to increase its durability, since he anticipated that Bentley would soon be running around with it. Additionally, he attached ribbons so that passing vehicles could immediately see Bentley’s wheelchair.
With everything prepared and built, the only remaining question was how Bentley would react. Thankfully, the dog quickly adapted to the device and used it with ease. With all of his human grandfather’s efforts, he could now be seen smiling brightly and he had that adorable puppy face back.
Thank you, grandpa, for doing this for Bentley!
