Locals and tourists from Erode, India are witnesses to a unique bond between a stray puppy and a rhesus macaque monkey. The latter treats the former like his son, which most people find interesting. Perhaps animal instincts indeed go beyond physical appearance and species especially when one is dealing with abandonment.
Father and son
People are fond of the unlikely duo’s story because they treat each other like they’re biologically father and son. According to the locals, the two met when stray dogs attacked the puppy. The monkey stepped in and protected the puppy from the big dogs that were attacking him. He risked his life in the process because the dogs were just as big as him.
The monkey then decided to adopt the puppy since it had nowhere else to go. Both of them are homeless, and they wander through the busy streets of Erode together. The monkey always carries his four-legged adopted son in his arms. Locals also see them playing together, but the monkey is overprotective, he refuses to let stray dogs come near them.
A loving community
One of the things that help this duo get by is the love and support they get from the locals. They value their existence, and sometimes they leave food for the monkey and the puppy. The locals observed that during mealtime, the monkey lets the puppy go first – an unlikely behavior from a wild animal.
According to recent updates, local animal officials took charge of caring for the puppy. While that guarantees that the puppy is in good hands, the memory of how the monkey took care of him will remain in the hearts and minds of the people from Erode. The story of his generosity and kindness deserves to be shared from generation to generation.
