Jasper Is The Very First And The Finest Pit Bull K9 In The State Of Indiana

Jasper Is The Very First And The Finest Pit Bull K9 In The State Of Indiana

Kathy Morgan May 6, 2023

Before the Prince William County Animal Shelter (PWHS) discovered and rescued Jasper, he had been living on the streets for quite some time. In two separate instances, the dog was returned to the shelter after joining two families. Due to his two failed adoption attempts, it became difficult for this two-year-old Pittie to find a home.

Jill Gregory, manager of the Prince William Humane Society’s center, took Jasper to another humane society in a separate city. Initially, everything appeared normal, but the dog’s very high level of energy upset the animal care staff. Jasper was also cheeky with another staff member.

When PWHS President Lory Leary contacted Off-Leash K9 Training, Jasper’s luck changed. She anticipated that Jasper’s positive attitude would lead to a successful career in law enforcement. Thus, Leary continued with her strategy.

Jasper was trained to be a narcotics detection canine by the Pennsylvania-based Throw Away Dogs Project, which also provided further assistance. Shortly before the dog completed his training, the Kennard Police Department introduced Jasper as its newest member. The attractive, energetic, and highly-spirited canine was also the department’s first Pit Bull K9 officer.

Jasper currently works with Deputy Chief Don Crabtree to rid the streets of illegal substances such as heroin, cocaine, meth, and ecstasy. His tragic background is now in the past, and he now serves as a good example for his breed and other dogs around the country and the globe.

Since Kennard does not have a budget for drug-detection K9s at the moment, Crabtree is responsible for Jasper’s upkeep. He stated that he wouldn’t have it any other way because the puppy is worth every penny. Crabtree and Jasper have a strong relationship, and they complete all tasks together.

The major objective of Kennard is to keep the community secure. They desire a place where residents may sleep peacefully with their front doors unlocked. With the assistance of the community and Jasper’s outstanding job performance, everyone believes their objective is possible and that they are close to achieving it.

About The Author

Kathy Morgan

I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma (of course a lady never shares their age) many years ago. Growing up I could remember always enjoying many pets in our household. From rabbits, hamsters Guinea pigs and dogs I loved them all even to this day. After graduating from High School: I decided to search for my first job. Yep, you guessed it my first job landed me in a pet shop. I learned so much from that experience that twenty years later I am still affiliated with our four-legged friend. I no longer work in a pet shop; but I have devoted my life to writing articles about “man’s best friend” dogs. I hope you enjoy the articles, stories and videos of our furry friends on this website. See you on the inside.
