Husky Was Jealous Of New Baby But Later Learned To Love Him, Too

Kathy Morgan October 5, 2019

Rupert, a Siberian husky, had been the only boy in his human dad’s life for a long time. For seven years, he and dad were together all the time, and nothing came between them.

But then, a new baby came along when Parker, dad’s son, was born. And Rupert had a hard time accepting he was no longer the only boy in his dad’s eyes.

Wanting to affirm Rupert that he was still loved, dad took his time with the husky. He introduced his new baby to the dog slowly, allowing him to get to know the baby on his own. He never left Parker alone with the dog, but he made sure Rupert got acquainted with Parker day after day.

And his strategy worked. Rupert didn’t become hostile toward Parker at all. However, he was still jealous of the baby. He wouldn’t give the baby a kiss whenever dad asked him to.

Despite his jealousy, Rupert slowly became the little boy’s “bodyguard.” He always stayed by the baby’s side whenever he could. He was even there for Parker’s first bath! Like a concerned older brother, he stood by the tub as mom washed Parker’s hair.

Parker, on the other hand, had grown rather fond of the dog, who was always near him. He would often stroke Rupert’s fur, something the dog enjoyed. He also gave Rupert food when no one was looking.

Over time, the two of them began to form a bond. The dog had assigned himself as Parker’s official bodyguard, while Parker had appointed him to be his official pillow.

Yet, Rupert still refused to kiss Parker whenever dad asked him to kiss the baby. Somehow, the jealousy was still there. But not for long.

Dad caught a video of Rupert kissing Parker. Dad told Parker to kiss the dog, so the toddler slowly stroked Rupert’s head before giving him a smooch on the forehead. In response to the affectionate gesture, Rupert kissed the boy on the mouth.

Finally, Rupert had come to love Parker as his baby brother. See how their relationship blossomed in the video below.

I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma (of course a lady never shares their age) many years ago. Growing up I could remember always enjoying many pets in our household. From rabbits, hamsters Guinea pigs and dogs I loved them all even to this day. After graduating from High School: I decided to search for my first job. Yep, you guessed it my first job landed me in a pet shop. I learned so much from that experience that twenty years later I am still affiliated with our four-legged friend. I no longer work in a pet shop; but I have devoted my life to writing articles about “man’s best friend” dogs. I hope you enjoy the articles, stories and videos of our furry friends on this website. See you on the inside.
