Hallmark Channel Names New York Pup Most Heroic Canine

Kathy Morgan December 2, 2020

Hallmark Channel dubbed MacKenzie, a small chihuahua from New York, as the Most Heroic Canine in America at the American Humane Hero Dog Awards. More than 400 dogs competed for the top prize, but only one can take the title in the end.

On their 10th anniversary, Hallmark Channel dubbed MacKenzie as “Hero Shelter Dog of the Year,” but also “2020’s American Hero Dog.”

MacKenzie was born in Hilton, New York. During her younger years, the pup struggled since she was born with a cleft palate, causing her to have complications with aspiration pneumonia. Because of her condition, she had to eat with the help of a tube. Fortunately, she had surgery and is now all better.

The pup soon started working at The Mia Foundation, an organization specializing in caring for animals with congenital disabilities, specifically, those who can’t be with their mothers.

According to American Humane, MacKenzie’s job revolves around taking care of baby rescue animals by giving them cuddles and offering them comfort. The pup even goes as far as acting like their mother by nursing and cleaning after the. She also teaches them how to play, socialize, and have good manners.

Thanks to her outstanding work, she was awarded multiple titles by the Hallmark Channel. Dr. Robin Ganzert, CEO and President of American Humane, explained that the award show’s goal was to inspire others of the real value of animals such as MacKenzie. They have done so much for the world every day.

Many extraordinary dogs have gone above and beyond. Many of these heroic canines not only saved lives but also gave comfort to the aged and ill. The award show was made to honor those heroes and remind the deep bond between man and dog, Ganzert said.

Kathy Morgan

I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma (of course a lady never shares their age) many years ago. Growing up I could remember always enjoying many pets in our household. From rabbits, hamsters Guinea pigs and dogs I loved them all even to this day. After graduating from High School: I decided to search for my first job. Yep, you guessed it my first job landed me in a pet shop. I learned so much from that experience that twenty years later I am still affiliated with our four-legged friend. I no longer work in a pet shop; but I have devoted my life to writing articles about “man’s best friend” dogs. I hope you enjoy the articles, stories and videos of our furry friends on this website. See you on the inside.
