We have probably heard this over a hundred times in our lifetime: dogs are man’s best friend. And without a doubt, they are! Their loyalty and expressions of unconditional love prove how much they adore their human companions. Plus, they’re deathly adorable!
And this crime-fighting pup is no exception. He had successfully managed to put some truth to the long-standing saying when he stole the affection of two officers from the Los Angeles Police Department after they discovered him gallivanting the streets by himself. And his story would give us another reason to love our canine companions a little bit more.
In October 2019, Hollywood LAPD posted through their Twitter account about a tiny, chocolate-colored puppy found by Officers Mercado and Tavera while on patrol at Los Angeles’ Hobart Boulevard. The two of them knew the importance of being cautious when approaching a stray, but they knew exactly how to deal with the situation and acted immediately since they had the proper training.
They took in the puppy they named Hobart – inspired by the street where they found him – and quickly installed him as the newest member of LAPD’s K-9 unit and put him through some basic training. And in this time and age of social media, they documented the whole journey through the LAPD Hollywood Division Twitter account to show off for the entire world.
Hobart’s hectic schedule includes joy rides in the patrol car. His two rescuers even uploaded the cutest snap of him while sitting in the front seat. They even wrote a caption with the photo, introducing him to the world and officially welcoming him to the organization!
The little tyke even seemed to form a quick friendship with Officer Mercado, and a video of the puppy following him around proves how obsessed he is with the man in uniform who saved him! And in true viral fashion, the tweets blew up online, where the hashtag #HollywoodHobart had fans from all over giving the pup tons of praises.
It gives us an excellent feeling, knowing that the LAPD got little Hobart off the streets. Additionally, Officer Mercado decided to make the little darling a part of his family! So it’s true what they say, that even the smallest of packages could give us the most immense joy, and we’re optimistic that Hobart is giving so much of this to his new permanent family!
