Service dogs are considered to be essential in today’s society. Ever since service dogs were used, they made so many lives better. Dogs are quite intelligent and they can be trained to become service dogs. Some are trained to become arson detection dogs, while others are trained to detect drugs, which we often see at border crossings, and airports. However, some dogs are trained to become emotional support animals or therapy dogs, which can help people suffering from anxiety or PTSD.
During the Uvalde school shooting in Texas, hundreds of people were traumatized by what happened, especially the survivors and their families. Many of them are still suffering from the trauma the shootings brought into their lives. Many of the survivors are going to therapy to help them cope.
A dog trainer named Eric Andrade hopes to help the survivors by donating one of the dogs he’s training to one of the families in Uvalde. He knows the amazing power of dogs in helping people with stress and anxiety and figures that giving away one of the dogs he trains to become an emotional support dog can help the family heal from the tragedy.
As a professional canine handler for 3DK9 Detection Services, he knows that a professionally trained dog can do wonders for people suffering from PTSD. He is currently fostering a German Shepherd named Stinky, who he’s training to become a service dog. Eric states that Stinky is a very needy dog who loves getting praise from his handler rather than getting treats or toys.
Stinky’s trait to seek love and praise from people makes him the perfect dog for a family who needs attention and comfort. Eric is still in the process of training Stinky but he already knew which family he plans on giving him to once he finishes training Stinky.
The 3DK9 Detection Services usually trains service dogs for the police and military to help detect bombs and drugs. However, Stinky’s training is to become a service dog for healing and helping people cope with stress and anxiety. Here’s a video featuring Stinky’s story and how his job will make a family’s life better.
