Dog Lay In A Muddy Puddle Of Water By The Side Of The Road Waiting For Help

Kathy Morgan May 4, 2022

Fahrudin Caki Bravo, an animal rescuer from Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, was on his way home when he spotted a dog by the side of the busy road. He knew right off the bat that something wasn’t right so he pulled over and checked. And once he got closer, that’s when he realized how bad the pup’s condition was.

Presumably, the dog tried to cross the road when a speeding car hit it. It was badly injured that it no longer managed to get to a safer spot than the roadside. It probably collapsed to the ground, and without enough strength to move, it just lay still while soaked in a muddy puddle of water.

Caki knew the dog was in pain and it would possibly bite him if he try and move it. But he had to carry it into his car or he won’t be able to help at all. So he struck a deal with the dog. He said that he would help it feel better for as long as it won’t bite, and as if it understood what he meant, the pup just stayed still and let him do his job.

It wasn’t easy but the rescuer managed to get the dog, now Maddox, into a travel crate. He then drove straight to the nearest emergency vet in town to get the pup some pain meds. The following morning, he took the dog to the specialist and scheduled its surgery.

Maddox’s prognosis wasn’t so good. He only had a 10%-chance of walking again, and yet, Caki decided to pursue the spine surgery. Even if it was just 1%, it was worth a try.

The surgery lasted for hours but it was a success. The dog woke up right after the operation but he fell asleep again within minutes. He took a long rest to regain his energy, and when he finally woke up, he was free from pain.

The vets said Maddox would probably need a wheelchair for the rest of his life. His spine was badly injured because of the accident. But with his rescuer right beside him, anything can happen, even miracles.

Caki is optimistic that Maddox will make use of his hind legs again. With therapy and rehabilitation, he will surely make huge progress. After all, he is a resilient boy who refuses to give up on life.

I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma (of course a lady never shares their age) many years ago. Growing up I could remember always enjoying many pets in our household. From rabbits, hamsters Guinea pigs and dogs I loved them all even to this day. After graduating from High School: I decided to search for my first job. Yep, you guessed it my first job landed me in a pet shop. I learned so much from that experience that twenty years later I am still affiliated with our four-legged friend. I no longer work in a pet shop; but I have devoted my life to writing articles about “man’s best friend” dogs. I hope you enjoy the articles, stories and videos of our furry friends on this website. See you on the inside.
