One of the things that animal lovers share, no matter where in the world they are, is the desire to help their furry friends. They find it difficult to turn a blind eye to animals who are in desperate need of their help. These animal lovers are more than willing to give everything they have to make sure that these beautiful creatures are safe at all times.
Ditching the bouquet
When Sally Burky married her husband, they consciously decided to help shelter dogs during their big day. Both animal lovers, the couple from Ozark Missouri researched strategies to help increase these dogs’ chances of getting adopted. The celebration was supposed to be about them, but they wanted to put the spotlight on the dogs.
Burky was rummaging through different boards on Pinterest for wedding ideas when she noticed a trend. Most bridesmaids carried puppies instead of bouquets during the wedding. She then started to imagine having puppies and senior dogs on the day of her wedding.
The road to forever
Burky called Haven of Ozarks, the local animal rescue where she often volunteers and donates money. She asked if they were open to the idea of sharing some of their shelter dogs for her wedding. Burky went on to explain that the intention was to let more people see these dogs and hopefully help them find forever homes.
The shelter said yes, and the dogs walked down the aisle with Burky’s bridesmaids on her big day. The dogs who attended her wedding had a hard time finding families that were willing to adopt them. Thanks to sBurky and her husband, they went home with their forever families that day. The couple also raised funds and donated money to the dog shelter on the day of their wedding.
