Amos is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier that was born blind at a rescue shelter. Because of his disability, he faced many difficulties in finding a family that will take him home. Most special needs dogs face this dilemma. Most potential dog owners want dogs that won’t be too difficult to care for. One of the volunteers at the shelter, Jess Martin, fell in love with Amos and felt sorry for him.
Jess decided to foster Amos. She wants to give him a loving home while waiting for that particular family to adopt and accept Amos for what he is. What she didn’t know and realize is that her home would be it.
Toby and Amos
One of Jess’s biggest concern was her own senior dog. She has a 9-year-old terrier named Toby already living with her. She was worried about Toby’s reaction with the new arrival to their family. Jess and Toby have already built a strong bond together, and she is afraid that Toby might get jealous of Amos. It turned out, she had nothing to be worried about.
There was a bit of reluctance in Tommy’s side at the start. But eventually, Jess noticed that whenever Amos was having difficulties locating his food and water bowls, Toby would nudge Amos in the right direction. From then on, Toby was watching out for Amos.
The two dogs would even go out for walks. At first, Amos was a bit scared of the noises in his surroundings. When he felt overwhelmed, he would stop and lie down to gather his bearings. When that happens, Toby would stop too and lie beside his best friend. But as they went for more walks, Amos got used to all the sounds around him. Now it is their favorite activity together.
Toby has learned to guide Amos without even having been trained. He would nudge Amos every time he strays or if there are obstacles on the way. The two have bonded quite well, and this is what made Jess decide to adopt Amos. Now, the three form a very loving and happy family. Watch Toby and Amos in one of their hikes in the short clip below.
