Bess, The UK’s Loneliest Dog, Finally Finds A Loving Home After Spending A Decade In A Shelter

Bess, The UK’s Loneliest Dog, Finally Finds A Loving Home After Spending A Decade In A Shelter

Kathy Morgan June 29, 2021

Bess is an adorable border collie that has spent the last decade stuck at the Last Chance Animal Rescue in Edenbridge, Kent. Bess spent most of her life at the animal shelter, so the staff issued an appeal to help her find an owner. Fortunately for Bess, her story quickly went viral. Some even call her Britain’s loneliest dog.

Well, Britain’s loneliest dog doesn’t have to be lonely anymore. Hundreds of people from many different countries contacted the shelter to adopt Bess.

Bess and her story

According to Last Chance Animal Rescue, many adopters overlook Bess and this caused Bess to develop trust issues. She’s been with the shelter for 10 years, so it takes her quite a while to develop a bond with somebody. They recommend bring some treats if you want to get on Bess’s good side. Apparently, Bess is also very stubborn.

If Bess doesn’t want to do something, then she won’t do it. This is just how she cons the shelter staff into giving her treats. Bess is affectionate to people she trusts, but she doesn’t like it when people crowd near her. The shelter said that Bess’s new home needs to be understanding and devoted to her needs.

Bess finds her forever home

Even with all those requirements, plenty of people still want to adopt Bess. There are families from all around the world that want to adopt this cute border collie. In fact, the shelter had to set up two call centers to deal with the sheer amount of calls they got. One staff member said that they handled at least 160 phone calls inquiring about Bess.

Finally, after a strict adoption process, Last Chance Animal Rescue found Bess’s forever home. Bess’s new owners visited Bess a lot to build up their bond. They understand that Bess is set in her ways and they’re ready to give her all the love and care that she needs.

I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma (of course a lady never shares their age) many years ago. Growing up I could remember always enjoying many pets in our household. From rabbits, hamsters Guinea pigs and dogs I loved them all even to this day. After graduating from High School: I decided to search for my first job. Yep, you guessed it my first job landed me in a pet shop. I learned so much from that experience that twenty years later I am still affiliated with our four-legged friend. I no longer work in a pet shop; but I have devoted my life to writing articles about “man’s best friend” dogs. I hope you enjoy the articles, stories and videos of our furry friends on this website. See you on the inside.
