A Veteran Of The US Army Puts His Life In Danger To Keep His Rescue Dog Safe

A Veteran Of The US Army Puts His Life In Danger To Keep His Rescue Dog Safe

Kathy Morgan May 7, 2023

Trent Tweddale, an army veteran, placed his life in grave danger to defend his 6-year-old rescue dog Loki from an alligator assault. The event occurred during the pair’s morning stroll on Tweddale’s Florida farm.

Loki’s forepaws were in the water when the alligator grabbed him and attempted to drag him below. However, the war veteran will not give up on Loki without a struggle, even if it means risking his own life in a fight against a 13-foot alligator.

Tweddale described the horrifying incident, stating that he grabbed Loki’s collar in an attempt to pull him back, but ended up in a tug-of-war with the alligator, which was unyielding. The veteran then decided to release the collar, entered the water up to his knees, and began to pound the alligator’s head until it released Loki’s paw.

Tweddale survived the horrifying attack with minor injuries, but Loki was not so fortunate. When the veteran dragged the dog from the water, the dog’s leg appeared to be hanging by a thread and the dog’s bones were exposed. It was a nasty sight to see and Tweddale had to do something fast to get help for his dog.

Loki’s leg was so severely injured during the attack that metal plates and screws were required to repair it. The veteran expects that Loki will recover full use of his paws following treatment and time to heal.

While Loki relaxes and recovers from emergency surgery, Tweddale maintains his determination to find his assailant. The veteran instantly set up an alligator trap to protect his dog from future attacks. Tweddale informed the press that they still haven’t found the alligator, but said that they won’t give up until they do.

The war veteran demonstrated with complete earnestness that he would fight tooth and nail for his dog.

I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma (of course a lady never shares their age) many years ago. Growing up I could remember always enjoying many pets in our household. From rabbits, hamsters Guinea pigs and dogs I loved them all even to this day. After graduating from High School: I decided to search for my first job. Yep, you guessed it my first job landed me in a pet shop. I learned so much from that experience that twenty years later I am still affiliated with our four-legged friend. I no longer work in a pet shop; but I have devoted my life to writing articles about “man’s best friend” dogs. I hope you enjoy the articles, stories and videos of our furry friends on this website. See you on the inside.
