A Rejected Puppy Found A Mother’s Love In Another Rescue Dog

A Rejected Puppy Found A Mother’s Love In Another Rescue Dog

Kathy Morgan July 6, 2023

In South Carolina, a puppy with a ruptured eye named Raisin was abandoned at a vet because she was not wanted. She went through surgery to have her eye removed.

The vet was not sure that anyone would want to adopt her, but a volunteer-based pet rescue organization called Halfway There Rescue intervened. They knew she needed a mom.

Fortunately, the organization had just rescued a stray dog named Daya. She lost her puppies because her body rejected the pregnancy. As a result, she became depressed. The rescue organization decided to pair them together.

A woman named Katie Ruth Levans fostered the two dogs. She was uncertain if they would accept each other. Nevertheless, she had to give it a try.

Katie put Daya and Raisin together on a bed. Daya’s motherly instincts kicked in, and she began licking Raisin. The puppy reciprocated by licking her, too. Katie knew that the set-up could work, and Daya could help take care of the recovering puppy.

Daya provided the love and affection that Raisin needed. The puppy looked up to her and learned from her. Daya also started to heal from her grief over losing her puppies.

Eventually, Daya went to her forever home as soon as they knew that she was suitable for adoption. She fit in well with her new family, and she had another dog who adored her.

Meanwhile, Katie was falling in love with her foster puppy. Raisin had a charming personality. The puppy’s constant curious behavior was endearing.

Katie noticed that Raisin was very friendly. Even strangers and other dogs got attracted to her energy. Katie was sure Raisin learned her positive attitude from Daya.

Katie eventually made the adoption official, and Raisin went with her when she moved across the country. She was glad to have Raisin with her to face the future.

I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma (of course a lady never shares their age) many years ago. Growing up I could remember always enjoying many pets in our household. From rabbits, hamsters Guinea pigs and dogs I loved them all even to this day. After graduating from High School: I decided to search for my first job. Yep, you guessed it my first job landed me in a pet shop. I learned so much from that experience that twenty years later I am still affiliated with our four-legged friend. I no longer work in a pet shop; but I have devoted my life to writing articles about “man’s best friend” dogs. I hope you enjoy the articles, stories and videos of our furry friends on this website. See you on the inside.
