A German Shepherd Who Refuses To Be Rescued Alone Brings Over His Pitbull Friend

A German Shepherd Who Refuses To Be Rescued Alone Brings Over His Pitbull Friend

Kathy Morgan February 4, 2021

For dog owners, it’s painful to see dogs being coldly abandoned by their former families. Somehow, they know exactly how those dogs feel and the pain they are going through. For them, seeing dogs with no choice but to live on the streets and live in hunger every day is just unbearable.

But this pain is more intense for dog rescuers. With their job to rescue distressed, abused, and abandoned dogs, they have to see various heartbreaking dog situations every day. And while they are grateful to be part of saving a lot of canines who desperately need help, they know dogs shouldn’t be in those situations in the first place. And if one abandoned dog is painful enough, no one can possibly imagine the pain of a dog rescuer who has to respond to an area known for dumping neglected dogs.

This place can be found in the woods near Echo Lake Park in Denver, Colorado. And one of the heroic animal rescuers who scouts this place every day to find canines to save is Judy Obregon.

Judy lives in Fort Worth, Texas, and she is a part of an animal rescue organization called The Abandons Ones. In her experience in rescuing dogs, she knows that not all dogs are willing to be saved (at least on her few attempts). It might be because of their fear and mistrust, so it is her job to gain their trust so they can be willing to come with her.

One such dog that showed an apparent fear and mistrust was a German Shepherd. Judy tried to beam her charm on the dog, but it wasn’t working at first. Judy knew that patience is ‘the name of the game’ in this kind of job, and without it, attempting to rescue a canine would always be a failure. That is why she consistently visits the German Shepherd every day to feed her and shower her with love.

The dog was so afraid at her first few visits that the canine would immediately run away at the sight of her truck. But little by little, the ice between them began to melt until the German Shepherd became willing to be rescued and go with Judy. And Judy was thrilled to know that, finally, after all her efforts, the dog was ready to be saved, but it seems that there’s one more thing that holds the dog back.

While feeding her one morning, the German Shepherd suddenly ran back into the woods. Puzzled, Judy waited for The German Shepherd to come back, wondering what might have compelled the dog to do that.

Did the dog change her mind? Would she ever come back?

Judy waited patiently for the German Shepherd, and at last, she emerged again from the woods. But this time, the dog was not alone anymore. Beside her is a Pitbull with scars all over its face.

And when the two ran towards her, it was all clear what the German Shepherd was trying to say: if she would be rescued, she wanted her friend Pitbull to come with her. Judy was more than happy to do that and immediately brought them to a vet to have their much-needed check-up. And she received the good news that not one of them was suffering from worms.

Now, Judy is in the process of changing these dogs’ lives by finding them a permanent home and family that they can cherish forever. Along with their incoming new life, both dogs have also gained their brand new names. The German Shepherd was named Iris, while the Pitbull has been christened Clover.

I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma (of course a lady never shares their age) many years ago. Growing up I could remember always enjoying many pets in our household. From rabbits, hamsters Guinea pigs and dogs I loved them all even to this day. After graduating from High School: I decided to search for my first job. Yep, you guessed it my first job landed me in a pet shop. I learned so much from that experience that twenty years later I am still affiliated with our four-legged friend. I no longer work in a pet shop; but I have devoted my life to writing articles about “man’s best friend” dogs. I hope you enjoy the articles, stories and videos of our furry friends on this website. See you on the inside.
