Fascinating stories of the strong bond between humans and dogs are no longer new to us. But, every time we hear about them, they never fail to warm our hearts. Such is the case between Emmy and Buddy.
Emmy Karnot is a German woman who visited the Philippines for a vacation on Boracay’s famous white-sand island. She went there to take lessons for her scuba diving license, but she also found a long-lasting friendship as it turned out.
Emmy and Buddy first met when Emmy’s policeman friend gave Buddy to her as a birthday gift. Buddy was only seven weeks old at that time. According to Emmy, he was dirty, stinky, skinny, and had fleas and ticks. She immediately brought her to the veterinarian and gave him food and medicine.
While enjoying her vacation, Emmy took care of Buddy, and Buddy took care of her too. The two forged a strong bond of friendship, which made Emmy’s holiday more memorable.
Emmy planned to take care of Buddy only until she left the country. She wanted to find an excellent place for him to stay before she went home to Germany. However, when the time came that she needed to go home, she found herself unable to leave Buddy.
So, she decided to bring Buddy with her. She prepared all the necessary documents that will allow her to get Buddy to Germany. She also spent around $1240 on Buddy’s travel expenses, which affected her budget and prompted her to borrow money from friends and relatives. The whole process took almost five months because Buddy was also quarantined for three months before traveling.
Emmy loves Buddy so much that she can’t leave him behind, no matter what it costs. Buddy lives a good life in Germany now, and he can already understand three languages: Filipino, English, and German. Emmy also feels more compassion towards other animals because of her love for Buddy.
