A Dog’s Act Of Kindness For Lost Possum

A Dog’s Act Of Kindness For Lost Possum

Kathy Morgan November 11, 2019

Kindness is such a rare commodity nowadays, but it remains essential in today’s society. Being kind and compassionate to others is always the better choice. If you can be anything, you can still be helpful.

Even our canine friends are aware of this fact.

Take Kato, for example. Kato is a puli dog, a breed known for being protective and manipulative. However, in this particular instance, Kato found himself in the position to help out a vulnerable stranger.

Kato’s owners, Sally and Jon Watkinson, noticed something amiss when their dog approached them. To their surprise, they found a baby possum hiding within Kato’s thick fur coat. It attached itself and refused to budge.

Typically, dogs and possums aren’t too keen on each other. Dogs usually associate possums as intruders and would bark like crazy to chase it away. However, this time, Kato and his buddy Hugo didn’t cause a ruckus.

The poor baby possum probably got lost and didn’t know which way to turn. Without the aid of its mother, it naturally followed its instincts and clung to the puli dog. It believed the dog would help and protect it from danger.

The two dogs didn’t disappoint. They remained cool and calm, acting like having a possum clinging for dear life was a regular thing. Their calm demeanor helped the possum relax and stay still.

The Watkinsons brought their dogs to their local vet to have the possum checked out. They left it where it was, still attached to Kato’s fur.

Fortunately, the possum was in good health, although in need of a foster mom if its original mom is really gone. It was still possible to reunite it with its real mom if they could see her in time.

Kato’s kindness helped the baby possum overcome its fear. In the face of the unknown, such as the baby animal’s fate, a little sympathy can make all the difference.

Kathy Morgan

I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma (of course a lady never shares their age) many years ago. Growing up I could remember always enjoying many pets in our household. From rabbits, hamsters Guinea pigs and dogs I loved them all even to this day. After graduating from High School: I decided to search for my first job. Yep, you guessed it my first job landed me in a pet shop. I learned so much from that experience that twenty years later I am still affiliated with our four-legged friend. I no longer work in a pet shop; but I have devoted my life to writing articles about “man’s best friend” dogs. I hope you enjoy the articles, stories and videos of our furry friends on this website. See you on the inside.
