A Dog Won’t Eat His Food Unless It Is “Stirred” First Before Giving It To Him

A Dog Won’t Eat His Food Unless It Is “Stirred” First Before Giving It To Him

Kathy Morgan July 8, 2023

When Enzo had an upset stomach, his veterinarian recommended that his caring family feed him prescription wet food for a couple of days. After he recovered, they introduced him again to his regular food by slowly mixing it with the wet food, so that his tummy would not get overwhelmed. Eventually, they began giving Enzo his regular food again – and that is when something weird started to happen.

For some reason, the dog stopped eating. Enzo’s family was concerned that he might be still sick, but he seemed OK. He just refused to eat. And for a Golden Retriever, it’s pretty unusual.

Enzo’s family observed him very closely, hoping that he would show them any clues as to why he was not eating. But at first, they couldn’t just figure it out.

According to Enzo’s mom, Alicia, you could tell that he’s always contemplating and thinking. He has so expressive eyebrows that convey his thoughts about everything.

Enzo’s family tried to conceptualize various reasons with regard to his refusal to eat and produce solutions to help him. Eventually, though, they realized why Enzo might not be eating – and the answer was pretty funny.

Alicia said that one day they had a plan. Sure enough, they picked up the regular food, then stirred it with a spoon, and put it back down. Enzo instantly ate it.

The dog had watched his food being prepared while he’s sick and decided that it was how his special food should always be made – stirred with so much love by his beloved family. Once they began stirring his food for him again, he’s truly more than happy to eat anything they offered him.

Now, every time it is mealtime, Enzo’s caring family has to show him they are preparing his food by stirring it well before giving it to him. It is indeed a strange food routine that makes him happy now. As long as he is eating, his family is glad to oblige.

Alicia said that it is now just one step in their routine.

I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma (of course a lady never shares their age) many years ago. Growing up I could remember always enjoying many pets in our household. From rabbits, hamsters Guinea pigs and dogs I loved them all even to this day. After graduating from High School: I decided to search for my first job. Yep, you guessed it my first job landed me in a pet shop. I learned so much from that experience that twenty years later I am still affiliated with our four-legged friend. I no longer work in a pet shop; but I have devoted my life to writing articles about “man’s best friend” dogs. I hope you enjoy the articles, stories and videos of our furry friends on this website. See you on the inside.
