A Dog Walked Back To Its Previous Home That Was Almost 60 Miles Away

A Dog Walked Back To Its Previous Home That Was Almost 60 Miles Away

Kathy Morgan November 4, 2020

Dogs have an incredible memory of a home where they feel safe and loved.

Colton and Britney Michael, who lived in Lawson, Missouri, found a strange dog on their porch. She seemed to be so familiar with the house and had made herself comfortable.

Colton and Britney thought that she was a neighbor’s dog. She didn’t seem to be a stray because she looked cared for and healthy. Of course, they had to look for the owners.

Since the dog didn’t have a collar, the couple assumed that she had a microchip. They took her to the veterinarian clinic for scanning. Sure enough, they found out crucial information about her.

Cleo was registered to a family who previously owned the Michaels’ house. That family moved to Olathe, Kansas, two years ago. Colton knew that Cleo’s owners might be frantic over losing their dog, so he had to find them.

They found Cleo’s owners through Facebook. According to the owner’s posts, Cleo had been missing for a week. Colton contacted them and told them that Cleo was safe with him.

It turned out that she somehow got lost in one of her walks. Incredibly, when she attempted to go home, it was to her old house in Missouri, which was more than fifty miles away.

Cleo walked across state lines for a week to reach her old home. No one could tell how she managed to navigate busy highways and cross the river. They could only imagine how she was able to get food and water during those days.

Cleo was confused upon seeing strangers in her old house instead of her beloved family; she didn’t trust the Michaels. When her family came to get her, she was joyous.

They didn’t know why Cleo chose to go home to a house they had left for two years. To Cleo’s owners, what’s important was that they were reunited.

About The Author

Kathy Morgan

I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma (of course a lady never shares their age) many years ago. Growing up I could remember always enjoying many pets in our household. From rabbits, hamsters Guinea pigs and dogs I loved them all even to this day. After graduating from High School: I decided to search for my first job. Yep, you guessed it my first job landed me in a pet shop. I learned so much from that experience that twenty years later I am still affiliated with our four-legged friend. I no longer work in a pet shop; but I have devoted my life to writing articles about “man’s best friend” dogs. I hope you enjoy the articles, stories and videos of our furry friends on this website. See you on the inside.
