Dog Gets Trapped In A Freezing Dam With Strong Currents, But Heroic Men Go Out Of Their Way To Help Him

Dog Gets Trapped In A Freezing Dam With Strong Currents, But Heroic Men Go Out Of Their Way To Help Him

Kathy Morgan March 29, 2021

Humans are lucky because their pet dogs will do everything just to keep them safe. But dogs can be lucky, too, especially with people like James Stewart and Amos Ndlovu. The two formed an impromptu rescue team to save a dog named Scamp that was trapped in the middle of roaring rapids.

Here’s the story of how the pup got rescued:

Ending up in the wild waters

Scamp decided to follow his owner across a wet and slimy path at a dam in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. But while treading the causeway, he suddenly got carried away by the rapids.

After being swept, the dog miraculously found a rock to climb on. Luckily, 65-year-old James saw what happened while on a stroll with his wife.

James then ran back to his home and looked for a rope. He went over to his neighbor Amos, asking him to help save the dog. Amos didn’t hesitate.

Back in the rescue site, Amos agreed to have the rope tied around his waist while the old man held the other end. Amos then went into the water, which was freezing at the time. Stella, James’ wife, recorded the mission on her phone.

Scamp survived

In the video, Amos stepped on the slippery surfaces of the huge rocks while being assaulted by the waters. Scamp was clearly terrified, but Amos knew what to do since he was an owner of two dogs, too.

In the end, Amos managed to gain Scamp’s trust. After that, he picked up the dog and carried him back to the land.

Stella, who documented the whole event, said that her heart was in her mouth, but she decided to continue filming the mission. She said that if Amos slipped, he would be dead. Despite that, the 35-year-old man managed to pull himself out of the water with the dog in his arms.

Stella said that Amos deserved a medal for what he did.

I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma (of course a lady never shares their age) many years ago. Growing up I could remember always enjoying many pets in our household. From rabbits, hamsters Guinea pigs and dogs I loved them all even to this day. After graduating from High School: I decided to search for my first job. Yep, you guessed it my first job landed me in a pet shop. I learned so much from that experience that twenty years later I am still affiliated with our four-legged friend. I no longer work in a pet shop; but I have devoted my life to writing articles about “man’s best friend” dogs. I hope you enjoy the articles, stories and videos of our furry friends on this website. See you on the inside.
