Mark Feeley and his dog Storm regularly take a casual walk along the shores of Long Island. They both love the sea breeze, and the Golden Retriever adores their time together. Mark has never had any problems when they go out. Storm usually just walks beside him and doesn’t run away.
But then, there was this one particular time when the gentle dog suddenly bolted from his side, jolting his leash away from his owner’s hand. Startled, Mark turned to see where his dog was going. Storm ran into the oven and started swimming. Several feet away, he stopped and grabbed something. This was when Mark took out his camera and started filming.
Drowning fawn
At first, Mark couldn’t determine what got his dog excited. But as Storm got closer, he saw that he was dragging a fawn back to shore. Mark said that Storm swam to the drowning fawn and gently clamped his jaw on its neck as a lifeguard would when he or she is saving someone.
No one knew how the fawn got into the water and how long it has been there. But fortunately, the young deer was still alive when Storm got to it. When the two animals were in the dry land, Storm finally let it go. But then the dog wouldn’t go away.
He stayed by the fawn’s side, nudging and licking it. It seemed to Mark that his dog was trying to resuscitate the poor animal. Eventually, help came, and the fawn was given treatment. It was then brought to a local animal shelter where it would stay until it was strong enough to be re-released in the wild.
Thanks to Storm, the fawn has a new lease in life. If it wasn’t for his quick reaction, there was a very likely chance that it could have drowned. Mark says that he is so proud of his dog’s instincts and for being a lifesaver. For his actions, Storm received tons of baked goodies.
