Sadie has been sharing a home with her owners in Tuckahoe, New York, for quite some time. But in no instance did she have thoughts to get away from it, until one day. Sadie forced her way out of their back door and started running while barking loudly through the neighborhood streets.
The police had caught wind of reports of a barking pit bull, looking as if it has run away from home. They arrived after being called to help stop Sadie from running around the neighborhood. However, the pit bull was unstoppable as she let them chase her back home. When they got there, they find a broken fence and a sliding door that’s wide open.
They also noticed the smell of gas, which seemed like it was coming from the inside. Upon closer investigation, the police found that it was from a gas leak in the basement. The leak would have caused an explosion or maybe something more severe, but luckily, Sadie managed to get help in her own way.
During all this, Sadie’s owner, Serena Costello, was out of the house and on a day out with her 4-year-old daughter. When she discovered what her pet has done for their home, she was over the moon with the news.
As the investigation of the incident went further, they found out how Sadie did everything within her means to get out and get help. Her owner hailed her as their little hero. And although escaping from their house was very unlike Sadie, the pup did save their lives.
The police were obligated to write Costello a summons for having a pet on the loose even if it was not something they wanted to do. But one of the police officers decided to discard the summons after they declared that the gas leak was the root cause of it all.
