Dozer is just a sweet, curious, and hyper furry friend anyone would love to have. His curiosity made him do the unthinkable yet dangerous, but it paid off.
By the end of that day, he’d won himself an award, his page on the Maryland half marathon website, and a Facebook page. The best is the priceless recognition of $21,000 cash for cancer patients at the University of Maryland’s Maryland’s Greenebaum Cancer Center. Many will remember him for this.
How did it get here? Well, it all started when Dozer recognized a “group of people” running near his home in Fulton, Maryland. He jumped over the invisible fence and joined the race without a thought. At first, the other 2000-plus runners thought that he was with somebody. He would occasionally stop to lap for water in the resting points.
Two hours and a few minutes later, Dozer crossed the finish line, having run 7 miles. Since the dog was tired, he returned on Monday morning to the relief of its owner. He was distraught as he’d thought the dog ran away. He took him for a vet checkup as he appeared weak.
Things took a turn when word got around that he was the dog on the television coverage. The news caught on, and he began getting loads of fans. It took a little while before the owner got calls from the marathon organizers.
Karen Warmkessel, the University Maryland Medical Center spokesperson, upheld the dog for such a show. According to her, although the dog appeared tired, he looked great and active.
To that point, Dozer has brought a new drive for the marathon. The masses are demanding a special division in the race for animals in the future. If this happens, animals will run to save humans, which is ironic.
