Martha was a dog-lover who spent most of her days fostering rescued dogs. While visiting the local animal rescue shelter, she saw Mulan, an aggressive stray dog on the kill list.
Meeting Mulan
Mulan was rescued by animal control and was taken to the local shelter. Unfortunately, because of Mulan’s aggression, none of the volunteers at the shelter could adequately care for her.
The rescue facility was small, so they needed Mulan’s kennel. The shelter manager put the dog down at the end of the day if no one showed interest in her.
Martha came to the facility at the right time. Once she heard about Mulan’s situation, she immediately became determined to foster her.
Mulan barked and growled at every person who dared to come near her kennel. Fortunately, Martha had some treats with her that helped calm Mulan down.
Martha spent at least two and a half hours sitting on the floor next to Mulan’s kennel, trying to earn the dog’s trust. She knew fostering Mulan would mean constant reassurance and care, but she was willing to do anything.
Journey to forever home
The volunteers at the shelter were shocked when Martha walked to the receiving area with Mulan following behind her on a leash. Mulan was still hesitant to go with her new foster mom, but at least she stopped her aggressive behavior.
On Mulan’s first day in her new home, she made a big mess in the living room. Martha was surprised but ignored the broken furniture and instead sat down on the floor and fed Mulan a healthy meal.
Because of Martha’s patience, it didn’t take long before Mulan became more comfortable and confident. Martha also introduced Mulan to her two other dogs, who immediately became her new best friends.
After a few weeks of fostering, Martha noticed how much Mulan had progressed. Mulan used to cower in fear, and now she enjoys belly rubs and cuddling.
Martha posted Mulan’s story online, which gained hundreds of views. A kind lady from Canada soon contacted Martha, applying to adopt Mulan.
