A lot of humans are exceptionally inspired by stories of animals overcoming the struggles in their lives. Their resilience and strong spirit for survival are something to marvel at. This is why a lot of stories about homeless dogs hurdling over their difficulties often go viral.
One such story involved an abandoned dog found in the parking lot of a local shelter in Kentucky. The pooch, named Ethan, was on the brink of death. But with the help of kind humans, he was determined to survive. This earned him a nomination in the 2022 American Humane Hero Dog Awards.
Emaciated
When shelter workers discovered Ethan, the dog was feeble and severely malnourished. They could see that the poor pooch was already slipping away. Typically, a dog of his breed and size should be at 80 pounds, Ethan was barely half of that. The pooch was so weak that he couldn’t even lift his head to eat or drink.
The canine was taken inside the shelter facility to be given vet care. Each day was a struggle, but neither Ethan nor his caregivers lost hope. After a week, the dog’s condition showed vast improvements. Although he was still not in an ideal condition, the canine could now stand up and eat on his own.
Nominated
Because of his determination to live, many people kept track of Ethan’s progress. Many of them gave words of admiration and encouragement. Some also shared how the dog’s perseverance inspired them.
Ethan was eventually adopted by one of his caregivers. He joins his new dad when he goes to work and offers emotional support to dogs suffering from medical issues. He was once in that same position.
Because of his work and his success in overcoming his struggles, Ethan became one of the frontrunners in the shelter category of the 2022 American Humane Hero Dog Awards.
