A Dog Leads Her Owner To An Abandoned Puppy Sleeping In A Muddy Hole

A Dog Leads Her Owner To An Abandoned Puppy Sleeping In A Muddy Hole

Kathy Morgan July 10, 2023

Last September, a man named William Thomas Green woke up so early to take his beloved rescue pit bull, Cokie, to the nearby dog park. Even if it had been raining all night, he’s not going to deny his very active pup a game of fetch and a walk. However, when Green unleashed Cokie, something caught her eye.

According to Green, Cokie immediately ran back to a certain corner of the said park and kept on staring at him. So he walked back to check what she was very concerned with.

What Green actually found broke his heart.

The dog led her dad to another pup sleeping in a muddy hole. The foxhound had been unluckily abandoned during the night’s typhoon and was very sick and skinny that she could not even stand.

Green said that he immediately went to his car and got the poor dog food and water. After she finished eating and drinking, she managed to stand back up and didn’t leave Green’s side.

Green gave the pup a lot of scratches and pets, and he could absolutely see her begin to relax. At the vet clinic, the pup was diagnosed with whipworms and heartworms. She’s also very malnourished and had been previously used for breeding. Green named her Lucky Lucy.

After days of healing, Green brought Lucy home to Huntsville in Alabama, where he gladly introduced her to his entire family. According to Green, his wife’s mom and dad instantly fell in love with Lucy, and his younger brother-in-law also did. They all took her in. And now, Lucy weighs more than 60 pounds and ultimately lives the greatest life of any dog that you will ever meet.

After months of compassion and care, Lucy started to understand that finally, she was safe.

Green said that for the first few weeks, Lucy is so timid, and even though she is a foxhound, she would not bark or howl at anything. After she became a lot more comfortable, she began doing little tiny “awoos.” Green added that they could definitely tell that Lucy was beginning to trust everybody in the family. Now, if she even notices a bird outside, she freaks out and howls like the entire house is being shattered.

Cokie and Lucy’s relationship has also deepened and grown since their first unexpected encounter. Green said that the two dogs want nothing more than just to play together at the dog park and in the backyard. He continued that Lucy always invites Cokie into her bed, and the duo will cuddle each other. It is a great sister-little-sister vibe with them.

Here’s a video of Cokie and Lucy playing together.

Green is so thankful that he’s at the right place and at the right time to get Lucy the kind of help that she needed. And in turn, Lucy has given her dad and his whole family nothing but pure love.

According to Green, it is great that Lucy has gotten a second chance at life. He doesn’t know how the lucky pup is very sweet after all that she has been through.

I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma (of course a lady never shares their age) many years ago. Growing up I could remember always enjoying many pets in our household. From rabbits, hamsters Guinea pigs and dogs I loved them all even to this day. After graduating from High School: I decided to search for my first job. Yep, you guessed it my first job landed me in a pet shop. I learned so much from that experience that twenty years later I am still affiliated with our four-legged friend. I no longer work in a pet shop; but I have devoted my life to writing articles about “man’s best friend” dogs. I hope you enjoy the articles, stories and videos of our furry friends on this website. See you on the inside.
