When people from the coastal communities of the US learned that Hurricane Matthew was going to hit their community, they prepared for the worst. They knew that the storm would be devastatingly strong, and they would be in a lot of danger. Some even evacuated the area.
It’s sad though that there are humans that don’t care about their animals. And the lives of two dogs were placed in jeopardy. They were cruelly abandoned along with the trash. Forced to face the horrifying natural disaster unprotected.
In a crate
Susan Stanley, a resident of Tampa, Florida, was peering out her window when she saw a crate lodged between two large trash bins. The storm was starting to pick up, and inside the small box were two dogs. The door was open, but the pups were too frightened to get out.
The kind lady knew that if the dogs stayed out there, they would be exposed to the incoming storm. Their flimsy cage would offer no protection. And if the abandoned dogs run out to the street, they may get hit by a car.
Without any hesitation, Susan got out of her house and tried to coax the pups towards her. But they were too scared to move. She didn’t want to frighten them anymore, so she called the local shelter.
A better life
When the rescuers arrived, the dogs were already running in the streets. They could see that they have been neglected for a while as they had deeply matted fur. But thankfully, after a visit to a vet, they were found to be healthy.
The dogs, believed to be a mix of Lhasa Apso and Yorkie, are around 12 to 16 months old. Both of them were placed under the care of the shelter, where they will stay until they could find people willing to adopt them.
The shelter may not be the best setting for them, but at least they were taken out of danger. Hopefully, they will soon have a new forever family which would take much better care of them.
