Keola is a lovely American Akita who lives in Doncaster, South Yorkshire with her owners. Her humans, Ricky and Alhanna Butler, were expecting a baby who would soon become Keola’s brother.
Keola became increasingly excited as Alhanna’s pregnancy advanced. However, she couldn’t shake the notion that there was something wrong with her mother’s pregnancy.
Alhana experienced acute aches in her back one day. She went to the hospital for a quick check-up, frightened and worried. Her doctor simply assured her that the severe backaches she was experiencing were usual during pregnancy.
She returned home, believing what the doctor told her. However, Keola seemed to know better.
The dog then sensed that something was surely wrong with her mother. She continued to sob and yelp, as if informing Alhanna that her life was in danger. Days passed and Keola persisted in what she was doing.
Alhanna picked up on Keola’s strange behavior and was perplexed as to why the dog behaved that way. However, after some careful thought, she chose to heed the pooch’s warning signs.
She was promptly sent to critical care upon her return to the hospital. As it turned out, the pregnant mother was suffering from a double kidney infection. The doctors stated that because the infection had gone untreated for an extended period, it was one of the worst cases that they had ever seen. However, Keola had been able to save both her mother and her unborn brother’s lives.
Alhanna was able to deliver her pregnancy safely as a result of Keola’s warning.
Her newborn son, Lincoln, and Keola have become the best of friends, owing to Keola’s extraordinary ability to sense when anything is wrong.
