Ermionni Giannakou, DAR Animal Rescue’s head rescuer and founder, received a call about a dog that needed her help. She was informed that the poor pup just appeared in the neighborhood one day, hid under the bush, and never went out again. So without wasting any second, she sprang into action to save the dog.
As it turned out, the dog had been in hiding for no less than two days. Residents who saw her said she limped when she walked. She had a bad leg and she was plausibly in excruciating pain. She was surely in dire need of medical help.
As soon as Ermionni saw the dog, she tried and encouraged it to walk out of the bush to see the extent of its injury. The dog, however, just stared at her and did not move at all. And so, she just carefully and gently scooped it up and carried it to her car.
Once she was certain the dog was comfortable and secured, the rescuer headed straight to the vet’s clinic. The doctors immediately started the dog’s medical evaluation and revealed that it had a dislocated hip bone. It was surely in pain but it did not even flinch and just let the vet do his job.
The dog, now Pippy, stayed at the hospital for several weeks because she needed to heal. Her progress took time but she recovered nonetheless. And the moment she got her medical clearance, she left the clinic and joined her rescuer at the shelter.
Pippy spent a few more days on her own to ensure her complete recovery. But soon enough, she got to meet other rescue dogs. She played with them, chased them, and had fun with all of them.
After all her troubles, the dog learned to enjoy her life again. She liked going on walks so her rescuer made sure she went on a stroll twice a day. It made her feel free and in charge of her own life.
Before long, Pippy was set to start fresh. She flew to Germany and traveled 1000 miles to meet her new mom and dad. She was exhausted but she was happy because, at last, she was home.
