Riverside County Sherriff’s Department Saves Puppy Locked Inside A 130-Degree Car

Riverside County Sherriff’s Department Saves Puppy Locked Inside A 130-Degree Car

Kathy Morgan June 26, 2021

Dogs don’t have any sweat glands so they are much more sensitive to heat than us humans. Dogs release heat by panting, but this may not be enough if temperatures are too high. Pet owners should never leave their dogs inside a vehicle without air conditioning because of the danger this poses to their dogs. Temperatures inside a car can rise surprisingly quickly.

Rescuing Boomer

On July 28, 2020, a passerby heard a small dog named Boomer barking and yelping from inside a vehicle. The temperature that day was approximately 99 degrees. When the passerby went near the car to investigate, they saw that Boomer was no longer moving. The passerby immediately rescued Boomer.

The Riverside County Sherriff’s Deputies then arrived and placed Boomer inside an air-conditioned patrol unit. The Deputies then noted the internal temperature of the hot car. It was 130 degrees. Boomer was in serious danger.

Why you should never leave animals inside a car during a warm day

The authorities then located and arrested Boomer for animal cruelty. They then gave Boomer to the Ramona Humane Society where he will be safe. The authorities then reminded people about the dangers of closed vehicles in hot weather. Temperatures inside a closed vehicle can reach more than 120 degrees within minutes even on a cloudy day and even with slightly open windows.

High temperatures like this can quickly kill pets. The Riverside County Sherrif’s Department reminded people that pets cannot clearly express their needs even when they are in grave distress. Responsible pet owners must make sure to meet their needs during hot weather. You can help your pet cool down by making sure that they have enough water and shade.

Unfortunately, people still leave their dogs inside hot cars. If you see a dog in distress, then make sure to contact the authorities as soon as you can.

I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma (of course a lady never shares their age) many years ago. Growing up I could remember always enjoying many pets in our household. From rabbits, hamsters Guinea pigs and dogs I loved them all even to this day. After graduating from High School: I decided to search for my first job. Yep, you guessed it my first job landed me in a pet shop. I learned so much from that experience that twenty years later I am still affiliated with our four-legged friend. I no longer work in a pet shop; but I have devoted my life to writing articles about “man’s best friend” dogs. I hope you enjoy the articles, stories and videos of our furry friends on this website. See you on the inside.
