On a frigid winter night, a malnourished Newfoundland Mix was discovered walking the streets alone. Officers understood how serious the situation was when they got closer to the abandoned puppy.
The slender street dog dragged a chain behind him with each stride, tied to a chain collar around his neck. The collar was deeply entrenched in the skin of the Newfie, resulting in a large and painful illness.
The policemen took the injured puppy to the Ottawa Humane Society, where he was evaluated by their experienced veterinary team right away. His condition astounded even the shelter staff since the cuts around his neck were unthinkable.
The staff promptly put the emaciated Newfie under anesthesia and began treating his numerous wounds. The chain around the pup’s neck and the diseased tissue around it were removed during surgery. Because the damage was so severe, a drain tube was required to prevent fluid buildup surrounding the incision site.
Because of the abandoned puppy’s poor condition, his rescuers suspect he may have been on the run for a long time. While Jake’s status up to this point is unknown, a cruelty inquiry has been initiated in the hopes of the truth.
Jake, the Newfoundland mix, has been named and is being cared for by the Ottawa Humane Society’s dedicated crew. Jake has a great support system in the OHS team, as well as a large number of passionate admirers who have followed his journey.
Jake, according to the OHS, is doing exceptionally well. His operation site, where the collar was removed, is mending beautifully, and his stitches have already been removed.
Even though he has gained weight, he still has a long way to go before attaining a healthy weight. The veterinary team monitors him regularly to ensure he’s getting the nutrition he needs to gradually and safely restore his strength. The staff at the OHS is currently spoiling him until he is well enough to be placed in a foster home.
