There are countless people out there who go above and beyond for rescue dogs. Some dedicate their lives to pull dogs out of kill shelters, while others take care of rescue dogs and make sure that they live comfortably while they wait for a loving family to adopt them. It’s a huge responsibility to foster a dog and not many people know about the amount of work it takes to foster rescue dogs.
A couple named John and Briana Flores runs a dog rescue organization called I Pitty The Bull Foundation. They foster rescue pit bulls and get them ready to be adopted into loving forever homes. The couple is also an advocate of the Pit Bull breed and they teach people awareness about how amazing the Pit Bull breeds are as pets.
One particular foster dog they had was a Pit Bull named Sugar Mama. Sugar Mama was a particularly challenging foster dog since she’s already a senior dog. Sugar Mama was also pregnant when John and Briana started fostering her, which made fostering her more challenging.
Sugar Mama was around 7 to 8 years old, which meant that she was already too old to be having babies. John and Briana were afraid that Sugar Mama and her puppies might not make it. So, Briana stayed with Sugar Mama and even slept with her to make her feel comfortable. Eventually, Sugar Mama went into labor and she gave birth to her first puppy on Briana’s lap.
Two of the puppies struggled to breathe but all of them survived thanks to Briana stimulating, massaging, suctioning, and breathing into them. All of Sugar Mama’s puppies survived thanks to Briana. Because Sugar Mama wasn’t eating or drinking, she had little to no milk to offer her puppies.
Sugar Mama was stressed and wasn’t feeling well. So, John and Briana took over for Sugar Mama and bottle-fed all the puppies. Eventually, Sugar Mama started feeling better and started to eat and drink again. Sugar Mama still proved to be quite a sweet dog who loves taking care of her puppies.
Eventually, two of the puppies went to their foster-to-adopt home and one of the puppies had several adoption applications. Sugar Mama stayed behind in John and Briana’s home where she also awaits a loving family to adopt her. Here’s a heartwarming video showing how John and Briana worked so hard to help a senior Pit Bull give birth to her puppies and also to take care of her puppies.
